I saw it last week with a theatre full of like minded educators. We all loved it and wish there had been more. It would be wonderful to have a documentary of Robert’s entire life experience including what was accomplished in all his years in public service so students could understand what has happened over the past 50-60 years. I signed up to get info on hosting the film at our HS and cannot wait to get the info.

Thank you Nena for your interest. We are planning future projects with Bob. For this one, we really wanted to focus on celebrating him as a teacher as that is less well known and is so close to his heart. As well as being vital for our troubled times.

I’m very glad that you did focus on him as a teacher. Your film clearly captures his gifts as a teacher, as well as his love of teaching! If it were up to me, both you and Heather would receive Oscars for this film. I just kept thinking about how fortunate his students were to have such an engaging, involved, caring and passionate teacher. It made me want to go back to school and have him as a professor :)

His entire Wealth and Poverty class (14 sessions) is available free on YouTube.

I’m watching it now and thoroughly enjoying it—learning so much about why we are where we are now as a county (which seems to be what you’re asking about).

The first and last of these classes were filmed for use in the movie “The Last Class.” It’s the perfect follow up to the movie.

Thank you Fran. And we agree. We are planning to run the class as a weekly experience for people to watch along and engage next year. But in the meantime, we encourage everyone to watch the full lectures on YouTube.

Yes, it would be wonderful to have a documentary on Professor Reich’s entire life which is so rich with experience! Great to hear that you’re working on bringing it to your school!

Thanks for keeping this going.

I saw the movie in the theater and watched it again with the watchalong. I appreciate the opportunity to see it again and enjoyed it even more the second time!

Thank you, Steve. We hope people find more layers and context with multiple viewings. Our desire with these campus screenings is that the film could spark dialogue and perhaps subsequent screenings so students can see the material from new perspectives.

. . . worthy knowledge in what's happening on the world's stage and every student deserves its factual information.

Loved the movie - but so damn sick of being asked for money - I vote, I post, I write to leadership, I march - until a way is found for leadership to grow a pair & get money out of politics, I’m going to delete & block every damned person with their hand out.

Thank you for this comment. And we appreciate and echo your concern. As for the money aspect for this particular project, making movies takes tremendous resources and so does distributing them. The people who work on them deserve fair compensation. I came from the journalism world which has been descimated by imploding business models and now dangeorus consolidation. Look at Paramount and my former employer CBS News. We are hoping to find new ways to support work of context and depth that we believe is vital for a functioning democracy. We are not asking for money as much as exploring ways to support work that the media overlords like Bezos, Musk, and Ellison will never fund or program.

Is the campus tour just in the US? I’m wondering about this for Canadian campuses.

Elliot Kirschner's avatar

The campus tour can be global. We have played in theaters in multiple Canadian provinces and would love to show in schools there as well. We have great affection for our neighbors up north and apologize that you have to witness what we are doing to ourselves down here in the States.

Thank you for the info. I used to work at a community college (I’ve since retired) and still have connections with some of the faculty. I’ll let them know about the campus tour. I’m looking forward to the on-demand screening once it’s available.

By the way, I live in Alberta and this province has its own version of MAGA known here as MAGA North or Maple MAGA.

What about a college town in Rural Colorado? Adams State University and the satellite campus of Trinidad State College are in Alamosa, Colorado.

Elliot Kirschner's avatar

Thank you, Nelda. Do you ahve a contact at Adams State that we could contact who might help us set this up?

Have you considered Minnesota, for a live Q and A performance?

Don't forget about Europe. The Dutch? European system of art house theaters would be a perfect platform. Or just public a (paid) streaming channel in Europa.

I understand the economics around licensing the film, but without a doubt, it will limit the distribution and ultimately who is exposed to the material. I am interested in knowing the actual thought and strategy that went into this. Will the free wave closely follow the financial wave?

Please provide contacts in Albuquerque, NM so that I can assist in setting up a screening here.

I tried to watch the film. However, the link would not connect me. Thinking that it might be a MacBook issue, I asked my daughter. It would not work for her either. We didn’t register for the movie, because it said that wasn’t necessary. Instead, we watched the last lecture, on YouTube. Very disappointed, especially after reading the rave reviews. That is not really a surprise. RR is wonderful….a real breath of fresh air.

I loved the movie snd being able to watch it at home, Thank you, With so much hate in our faces, it is good to see so many peole drawn to and affirming this wonderful movie, It helps me hold onto hope, I live Chicago and too many are afraid to even go out of their homes, This is not democracy, but I have to believe that the will of the people will prevail,
