Took the classes, saw the theatrical release, told all my friends and will rent again for the respect and affection I have for you. Please tell the Hillary in my monopoly class story.
Thank you, Victoria! It means a great deal to have your support. Word of mouth from people like you is how films like this reach new audiences, so we’re truly grateful.
Thank you so much for your support and for sharing it on social media. We'd love to see anything you post on social media. Which platforms did you post on? And please tag @imcivicaction so we can help amplify. We greatly appreciate how much you enjoyed the film.
It was on FB (I'm an oldie)! I'm also a Canadian who has lived in many places in the world (Japan, HK and Saudi Arabia) and so my "friends" are from all over.
My family loved watching it. The tv room was crowded with 3 generations of relatives ages 11- 85.
I have contacted a number of friends, many whom are educators who are eager to see it. How should they get access?
Last but not least: I met with my local library today and they definately want to show it. Can they have several showings to accommodate the number of people in our town and surrounding areas? Is it preferable to have this event as soon as reasonable rather than later?
The Librarian asked if it would be a great adjunct to the movie to have Bob's latest book published (Coming Up Short)the town's book selection for summer reading and Book Club discussion!
You have done a remarkable job on this remarkable project about a remarkable man.
Thank you for the opportunity to be a part of this, a perfect example of Professor Reich's style of education.
Loved the film. After seeing it and because I faithful attend every Saturday’s Coffee Klatch, i decided to donate $20/mo to Inequality Media. I falsely thought that doing so would make me a subscriber to Robert Reich’s substack, but that doesn’t seem to have happened. I don’t mean to give offense by raising this here, but haven’t known how to try to synchronize my contribution to Inequality Media with access to the Reich (and perhaps others) posts that are not open to all. Can you inform me? Thanks. And Keep up the Good work; it really helps a lot of us to maintain at least part of our sanity!
I loved seeing the interaction between Professor Reich and so many students, whose faces told the story of their love and respect for him. I also found the introspective moments touching and revealing and honest. Since I’m the same age — 81— with experience teaching, I appreciate so much his sharing the feeling of loss that accompanies retirement and how that feeds into the intersecting arcs of the lives of students and teachers. Profound, bittersweet, and poignant. And best of all, hopeful. I’m certain his thousands of students treasure their time with him.
I loved seeing the interaction between Professor Reich and so many students, whose faces reflected their love and respect for him. I also found the introspective moments deeply touching revealing, honest, and profoundly human.
As someone who is also 81 and who has experience teaching, I especially appreciated his openness in sharing the sense of loss that can accompany retirement, and how that feeling becomes intertwined with the evolving lives of both students and teachers. The film felt profound, bittersweet, and poignant and best of all, hopeful.
I’m certain that the thousands of students whose lives he touched will always treasure their time with him.
Saw the movie for the second time this week and, again, felt a deep gratitude for the breadth and depth of Robert's intelligence and commitment. What an astounding body of work. Still happy to keep on course with this Substack. And many, many thanks to Heather and Elliott for bringing this all to our attention in such a professional and inspiring way.
I truly enjoyed a special/early showing of the film at a preview showing in Sonoma, CA. I’ve been wanting to have family and friends watch it ever since. It has become such an arduous PAIN to see it. Tried to on Saturday 5/16. Had friends and family gathered. We couldn’t access it. It’s a shame it’s been so impossible to see for so long. Not worth the effort anymore.
We are so sorry to hear about your experience and understand the frustration. We have had to cobble together technology not really designed for a film release because nothing exists that would allow us to readily distribute directly to audiences. As a result, this is an experiment and it is essential that we learn from our failures.
I wonder if you would be willing to share more about what went wrong. Did you go through Substack or from our website? And we can find a way to get you a link of the film that will definitely work if you are still interested. Again, we are sorry for these troubles and greatly appreciate your support.
I'm so glad that more folks will have access to The Last Class. My husband and I saw it on Cape Cod, last late summer. Twas wonderful!!!! To see it in a packed theater, even better! An old theater with velvet ropes and ushers and Robert, all to ourselves. The only thing that could improve that experience would be to find Robert actually ON THE STAGE!!!
Keep up the hard work. We love and appreciate you.
We're losing hope here, in the great state of MA, MAGA is a wrecking ball. Quiet MAGA. It's worse to not know, to see gererational Dems turning to their bank acts rather than to their fellow human. Die hard Democrats ..........quietly racist, entitled and voted for trump.
Thank you Ellen for your support and encouragement. We are planning more discussions with Bob about the film in the future. Please help spread the word about the film.
I gotta say I was disappointed. Love Mr. Reich. Love his drawings. Love his dedication to "the" mission. Didn't love the movie. It was more of a farewell and not actually the last class. I mean "Happy rewirement, Robert! (term stolen from the NYT)", but I would have loved more content. Like the actual lecture. So be it. Such is life.

Thank you for this kind note and for your encouragement, Sherry! We want as many educators to see this film as possible. They can get access by renting the film here: https://thelastclass.substack.com/p/watch-the-movie-the-last-class
If price is a barrier to any, they are also welcome to email us at thelastclassfilm@imcivicaction.org and we will arrange a free viewing opportunity.
And what an excellent idea to show it at your local library as well! I'll reach out directly over email to connect with you about this.
Best,
Anna
